In the spirit of the Botho-Ubuntu proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” the collaborative efforts of a senior member of the community and young African people come to fruition in the creation of this book. The primary goal of the author in writing this book, was to cultivate an increased awareness of cultural appreciation and roots among young African people, with the intention of reducing the likelihood of cultural detachment as they progress into adulthood.

The youth population of South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Rwanda and Zimbabwe exhibited exceptional artistic talent, producing remarkable short stories. These amazing young authors provided their perspective on the African teachings through various forms of creative writing such as letters, poetry, and short stories.

This book is a product of Ke-Di-Bone’s aspirational gratitude to shed light to the younger generation in the African insight of Sepedi proverb, “Rutang bana ditaola le se ye le tšona badimong”. Translated, it means teach the children, share the knowledge, do not be selfish and die without teaching them, mentor and coach them when time still permits.
