The Cape Flats Literary Awards recognized and celebrated the exceptional talent of writers and authors across the Cape Province and the country.

These awards not only showcase their literary accomplishments, it provides a platform for emerging writers to gain recognition amongst their peers and the wider community. The awards will include and target the youth through schools and libraries as part of the initiative, with writing competitions in various categories, such as poetry, fiction, short story writing and speech and drama.

By including writers and potential authors and poets, we aim is to inspire not only established writers and authors, but to develop young people to improve their reading and writing abilities. Furthermore, encouraging them to appreciate South Africa’s rich cultural heritage and to express themselves accordingly.

Collaborating with established publishers, schools and community organisations in and around Cape Town and at a later stage South Africa at large, we plan to make available published works from award-winning authors at school and public libraries, thereby promoting a culture of reading among students and promoting the local publishing industry.

This initiative includes establishing relationships with partners, such the Education Departments, Department of Sports Arts & Culture, Libraries, Book Distributors, Community organisations and publishers as well possible sponsors. This will ensure transparency and fairness throughout the judging process in each category.

The Cape Flats Literary Awards Programme will recognize and celebrate excellence in the field of literature. Our programme will highlight and honour outstanding literary works and authors across various categories.
