Shofar Books is an independent South African publishing house dedicated to helping new, emerging and established authors bring their books to life.
With more than 1,000 titles published and thousands of copies distributed locally and internationally, Shofar Books has grown into a trusted name in book production, publishing support and author development. From manuscript submission to printed books, distribution opportunities and reader engagement, our goal is to make the publishing journey more accessible, professional and rewarding for authors.
A Publishing House Built for Authors
Shofar Books was founded by Haroldene Le Roux Tshienda, an author, publisher and entrepreneur with a passion for literature, storytelling and cultural identity.
The company began as Tshienda Publications in 2015 and, after years of growth and successful publishing, was renamed Shofar Books. The new name reflects a wider vision: to create a strong, professional and inspiring platform where authors can publish quality books and reach broader audiences.
Today, Shofar Books works with authors from South Africa and beyond, including writers from countries such as the United States and Zimbabwe.
Through its literary initiatives, Shofar Books has recognised more than 310 authors and continues to create platforms for writers to be celebrated.

Publishing a book can feel overwhelming, especially for first-time authors. Shofar Books was created to remove that pressure by offering a more guided and supportive publishing experience.
Our publishing support includes practical assistance across the book journey, helping authors with the steps needed to move from manuscript to finished book. We understand that authors need more than printing. They need guidance, structure, visibility and a team that understands the emotional and professional importance of their work.
As the author of thirteen books herself, Haroldene understands the publishing process from both sides. This experience allows her to relate to writers not only as a publisher, but as a fellow author who knows what it takes to complete, publish and promote a book.
Promoting Books Beyond Publication
Shofar Books is committed to helping authors gain visibility after publication. Through partnerships with booksellers, distribution companies, libraries and bookstores across South Africa, the company continues to create opportunities for books to reach more readers.
Haroldene also hosts book readings and literary events in collaboration with Poets Vannie Kaap, an initiative she founded to celebrate poetry, storytelling and creative expression. These events help connect authors with audiences and encourage the ongoing support and purchase of local books.
